Civil March for Aleppo - Day 1. On the 26th December 2016, in the second day of Christmas holidays, hundreds of people, mainly gathered by social media appeal, started walking from Berlin airport Tempelhof towards Syria. When it started, the shape of the march was not defined precisely. And It stayed so for the next few months. The general idea was that people could affiliate and leave the march whenever they want. At the time of leaving Berlin the organizers didn’t know what will be the end of our journey. It was definitely planned to be a very long demonstration, aimed at raising the awareness of the topic - Syrian war and refugees crisis. Even in the countries the march walked through.
Sebastian Olenyi (one of the organizers) said: “We try to attract attention on the way. Maybe we can organize some help more. Perhaps we can manage to put more diplomatic pressure on all parties active in Syria. But also on the European politicians. From there it was also often heard: "My voters are not interested, no one can see the pictures. Why should I get involved? "If we really get there, or if only a few get more help, or the conflict is over a little earlier, then we've achieved a lot.”
